Under her guidance, the golf program at the Jersey Shore has flourished, garnering acclaim for its innovative approach and unwavering commitment to excellence.

Pam’s expertise extends far beyond the confines of traditional instruction. As a Level 4 Nationally Recognized Coach of the First Tee/PGA Tour, Golf Digest Certified Instructor, Operation 36 Certified Coach, and Level 1 US Kids Golf Certified Coach, she stands at the forefront of coaching excellence, equipped with a diverse array of tools and techniques to propel her students toward success.

With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, Al Welz stands out as a luminary in the world of golf coaching and professional play. As a seasoned PGA member and apprentice, Al brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for the game to his current roles as the PGA Head Professional at both Merrick Park Golf Club and Lido Golf Club, positions he has held with distinction since 2005.

Al’s coaching journey began at Holy Trinity, where he dedicated ten years to mentoring aspiring golfers, laying a foundation for his profound impact on the sport. His coaching career, now tallying 27 years, showcases a commitment to excellence and a deep understanding of golf’s nuances, making him a respected figure among peers and students alike.

A hallmark of Al’s coaching philosophy is his innovative approach to golf instruction. He has developed, promoted, and conducted an extensive golf lesson program that ranges from one-on-one instruction to large clinics accommodating 70 to 80 students. His programs are designed to cater to all age groups and ability levels, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to improve their game under his guidance.

Before his current tenure, Al honed his skills and contributed his expertise as an Assistant Golf Professional at several prestigious clubs, including Cantiague, The Creek, Springfield Golf Club in Virginia, and Osiris Country Club, from 1993 to 2004. This diverse background has equipped him with a unique perspective on the game, enriching his coaching philosophy.

As a player, Al has been an active and competitive presence in the Metropolitan PGA club professional circuit since 1994, participating in the esteemed New York State and Long Island Opens, among other tournaments. His playing career also includes notable stints with the U.R.I. Collegiate team from 1985 to 1987 and the SUNY at Farmingdale collegiate team from 1982 to 1984, after a successful high school career at Red Hook Central School in Dutchess County from 1979 to 1982.

Michael Giossi

Teaching Professional- Merrick GC

Michael Giossi is a seasoned teaching professional with a passion for golf education, boasting a career spanning over three decades. With a steadfast commitment to excellence and a wealth of experience, Giossi has left an indelible mark on the golfing community through his dedication to instruction and mentorship.

Beginning his journey in 1993, Giossi embarked on his teaching career as a PGA apprentice under the tutelage of the renowned Chuck Workman at Bethpage Golf Course.

Currently recognized as a USGTF Level 3 teaching professional, Giossi continues to elevate his expertise in golf instruction. His pursuit of excellence extends beyond the course, as he diligently works towards obtaining a Masters Certificate, further enriching his knowledge and proficiency in the field.

With an impressive track record of over 29,000 lessons delivered, Giossi’s impact on the golfing community is profound. His dedication to education extends beyond individual lessons, as he has successfully conducted clinics attended by over 1800 golfers, sharing his expertise with eager learners on a larger scale.

Giossi’s contributions to the golfing world extend beyond teaching, as he has held esteemed positions such as high school coach and Director of Golf at Bergen County Golf Course and Overpeck Golf Course. Additionally, his expertise as a Master Clubfitter for Golfsmith ensures that his students receive tailored equipment solutions to enhance their performance on the course.

At the heart of his endeavors, Giossi serves as the Village of Babylon Golf Camp Director, inspiring the next generation of golf enthusiasts through structured programs and hands-on instruction.

As an LPGA certified “Teaching Her” professional, Giossi remains at the forefront of innovation in golf instruction, embodying a commitment to excellence and a passion for empowering others through the game he loves.

P.J. Cowan

Teaching Professional- Merrick GC & Lido GC

P.J. Cowan’s golf professional career is diverse and extensive, with over 32 years of PGA Tournament experience and more than 50 professional tournament wins. Born in Hicksville, New York, Cowan earned a full scholarship to St. John’s University, where he won the 1988 Big East Championship.

After turning professional in 1990, Cowan had a significant impact on the golf circuit. His notable wins include the 1987 Long Island Amateur Champion, 1988 Havemeyer Champion, 1989 Mexican American Champion, 1995 Bahamas Open, 1996 Nike Tallahassee Open on the Nike Tour (now Korn Ferry Tour), 1999 Bermuda Open, and 2002 Sata Portugals Open. He was also the first alternate at the 1995 U.S. Open at Shinnecock and played in the U.S. Open at Congressional, although he missed the cut.

Cowan has been a three-time Met PGA Assistant Player of the Year Award winner and is also a three-time New York State Open champion. In 1992, P.J. shot a 59 at Montauk Downs Golf Course, marking the second time in his career shooting 59.

P.J. now dedicates his time to coaching at Merrick Golf Course and Lido Golf Club. He is skilled in Sports Psychology, Golf Instruction, Player Development, Sports Management, and Coaching.
